Ghost in the Shell is such a great movie, I should just breakdown a buy that, and the series.
Are you aware of the slightly disturbing and just outright weird sequel, where Battou (Sp?) searches for the Major?
I have not seen it yet, but I want to. It will in all likely hood be many times better then the Hollywood live action movie they are making.
I always go back to Lucky Number Slevin. Fantastic movie
Kingdom of heaven, the extended forever marathon(I might be paraphrasing) is a movie I love to come back to when I have the time. It’s such a gorgeous film and as a history nerd I can’t help myself.
I still have the Blu-Ray in the cellophane wrap from buying it at least a year ago after watching it on HBO
The extended edition is so much better than the original. You just need the 5 and a half hours to sit down and watch it
Jurassic Park by far, I tend to watch all 3, now excitingly 4 films every year, sometimes twice if I forget. Done that since I was about 12, now it’s been 12 years haha.
Still never gets old, or boring, the second and third have their faults and what not, I enjoy them for what they are. The 4th and now a new trilogy probably plays heavily on nostalgia and I like it for the most part, I wanted to know about the old and the new, it could have also been done better, but hey I like it for what it is as well.
All in all, Jurassic Park!
I’m with you, this is one of the first movies I have seen in my life, while granted I may have been too young. The best part is when i got older i decided to watch it again and it was just as good if not better now that i got the jokes.
I’d have to go with Back to the Future and Office Space. Both just make me happy.
man for me its got to be either pans labrynth or the princess bride. both create fantastic worlds with great stories
Assuming you are looking for more original answers then Star Wars/LoTR/Die Hard
I’ll have to go with Fifth Element, Aliens, Goodfellas and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Guardians may be too new to consider as the movie ill keep returning to, but its an awesome space epic that i can keep rewatching.
Blade Runner and Akira. I will never get sick of those films.
Which version of Blade Runner do you like best? Ridley Scott has changed it 5-7 times I think.
The one they released in 2007 seems to be the most “together” version - the one with the tiny bit of added footage - the girls dancing in hockey masks.
I don’t tend to revisit many movies. I like shows way more. However, my family started a tradition of watching all of the Lord of the Rings movies (extended editions+special features) every year. It’s a crazy long marathon that lasts somewhere around 15 hours. They aren’t the best movies, but they make me nostalgic and remind me of my family.
The special features for the Lord of the Rings are excellent. I hope at some point in the future that they remake the series and do one movie per book, instead of the one per volume that Peter Jackson did.
Mine would for sure be Scott Pilgrim vs The World. Even if it didn’t do the comic totally right, the visuals of the movie is enough to watch it again and again to get all the visual gags and flairs that Edgar Wright put in just under 2 hours.
There’s a handful that I can go back to again and again.
-
Jaws - My favorite movie of all time. Great suspense, acting, score, dialogue… Still one of Spielbergs best after all these years. I couldn’t even go in a swimming pool for the summer after I first saw it.
-
Royal Tenenbaums - You either have a love for Wes Anderson or you most likely can’t stand his movies. He works with a cast that understands his dialogue and pace which really shows up on screen. Plus his cinematography is inventive.
-
Alien/Aliens - I don’t think I need to say more.
-
Boogie Nights - Don’t ask me why. Part of it is the soundtrack. Part of it is very strong performances showing incredibly flawed people and how they deal with life. I wouldn’t say it is underrated, but I am still surprised by the number of people that haven’t seen it.
-
Usual Suspects - With one of the best twist endings in movie history, even after seeing it the first time it doesn’t lose replayability.
One movie that I forgot to say that I revisited a lot of times now is The Dirties. Made with passion on a small budget but it’s also a really well done film. Looking forward to their new film but I doubt it will have an international release :itmejpsad:
I know a lot of people hate it, but my guilty pleasure is What Dreams May Come. Watch it once a year or so. But I’m not a big movie person, I prefer a few seasons of a show than a 2-ish hour movie.
